Location: UK – Remote work only.

Full time position – 40 hours per week

Salary range (100%): £35’000 - £45’000 + competitive commission structure & OTE


Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Business Development & Account Manager to join our Karger office in the UK.

The purpose of the role is to drive business growth for Karger’s offerings in medical education, publication services, and science outreach and to build strong relationships with partners within the life sciences industry, particularly in pharma, biopharma, and med-tech sectors.

As an integral part of the Partnership Team, the Business Development & Account Managerwill be responsible for nurturing and expanding relationships with our returning clients, spearheading new business opportunities, and ensuring projects are adhering to agreed project specifications.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with a flair for engaging current clients and networking with potential leads.


Key Responsibilities:

Business Development:

  • Proactively engage pharmaceutical industry stakeholders including medical affairs and scientific publications teams and other relevant decision-makers, to assess their medical education and publication requirements and provide expert consultation
  • Through successful lead generation, consult with prospects to develop qualified opportunities and guide them towards closing the sale
  • Translate prospective client needs and objectives to produce engaging customized proposals and pitch them to secure advanced funding to initiate their development
  • Identify and regularly respond to RFPs for medical educational grant requests


Account Management:

  • Act as the main point of contact for assigned key customers and ensure high standards of communication are always maintained.
  • Retain and grow accounts in the healthcare area (pharma, biotechnology, med-tech, hospitals and societies).

 

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other internal teams to coordinate on project delivery, ensuring a seamless client experience.
  • Share insights and feedback from clients to inform product development and service improvement.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive solutions that enhance the company's market standing.
  • Assist in the creation of marketing campaigns and materials targeted at existing and potential clients.
  • Contribute to the development of case studies and success stories that demonstrate the company's impact and expertise.


Performance Tracking:

  • Monitor and report on sales targets, providing regular updates to leadership on progress and challenges.


Market Trends:

  • Stay up to date with industry developments, changing regulations, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and potential risks for our business.

 

Prospecting and Networking:

  • Regular attendance to key medical conferences in defined territory to build and maintain networks across the pharmaceutical industry
  • Identify and engage with leads using various techniques


Qualifications:

Professional qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field

 

Technical knowledge / professional experience / success in comparable task:

  • Proven experience as an Account Manager, Business Development Manager or Project Manager within publishing corporate sales, medical education, pharmaceutical or medical communications agency environment supporting clients from the pharmaceutical industry
  • Financial acumen and the ability to cost and budget.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients of diverse backgrounds


IT knowledge:

  • Proficiency in CRM software, Project Management and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create compelling proposals and presentations
  • Consultative approach and creative thinker
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and self-starter
  • Comfortable with networking at live events such as conferences to generate leads, as well as presenting in person, online and by telephone
  • Able to work independently and manage own tasks
