For the Editorial Development Unit, within the “Labs” arm of Karger Publishers, focused on strategy and innovation, based in Basel, Switzerland, we are looking for a motivated person to join our organization as a

Research Integrity & Publication Ethics (RIPE) Specialist (40-60%), temporary (maternity cover)

In this role, you will be supporting the Research Integrity & Publication Ethics Manager in maintaining, implementing and enforcing best practice in publication ethics for all Karger journals and books according to the COPE guidelines and other widely accepted guidelines. This role is a maternity cover for 7 months, perfect for a publishing professional who would like to gain experience in research integrity and publication ethics.

This multifaceted role, you will:

  • Investigate ethical issues relating to publishing in a structured and timely manner in line with the COPE guidelines and other widely accepted guidelines
  • Reporting and monitoring the history of cases in line with defined workflows
  • Liaising with authors, editors, and other external stakeholders in matters relating to publication ethics and peer review
  • Supporting and advising internal staff on issues relating to publication ethics and peer review
  • Supporting the RIPE manager in documenting improvements to editorial policies, guidelines and workflows

Qualification and experience required:

  • Significant experience in peer-reviewed scientific journals publishing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current scholarly publishing ethical policies
  • University degree (preferably in a scientific discipline)
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to adapt to various stakeholders
  • Excellent English proficiency (German a plus)
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Organized, excellent attention to detail and ability to work under time pressure
  • Proactive and problem-solving mindset
  • A collaborative, team player mentality
